ENERGY EFFICIENCY BOILERS

Replacing a boiler, which is over 15 years, old with a new condensing model will save over a third on your fuel bills and reduce the emissions collectively responsible for climate change.

We can help you by providing an extensive choice of Worcester boilers.

Is your inefficient boiler costing you money?

We specialise in sales  of Worcester boilers and central heating systems were part of the Lincs Gas group  Worcester  Accredited

We pride ourselves on our ability to listen to our customer’s requirements and have no fixed preconceived design concepts of your needs after all, every home is different and most importantly every customer has their own individual requirements and design aspirations.

THE ENVIRONMENT

By replacing your boiler with a more efficient model you will not only save money but you'll be doing your bit for the environment too.

If everyone in the UK fitted a new high efficiency boiler the amount of CO2 saved would fill all most 3.5 million hot air balloons!

1. CONDENSING COMBINATION BOILER SYSTEM

The combination system is, by far, the simplest form of central heating system available.

A Combination boiler is two appliances in one - a pressurised central heating boiler and an instantaneous water heater.

The main benefit of a combination boiler is that it heats water directly from the cold mains giving continuous hot water on demand to all taps at mains pressure with no need for any tanks. Water is only heated when required and is therefore usually more efficient and economical than a hot water storage cylinder which is part of a conventional system however, hot water will normally only flow from one tap at a time and heat flow to radiators is interrupted whilst hot water is being drawn.

Worcester Bosch is one of the largest manufactures of domestic gas and central heating boilers in the UK . renowned for quality, reliabilty and high efficiency condensing boilers, worcester Bosch has solutions to suit most household applications offering the ultimate in heating and hot water comfort.

  Worcester Environmental Policy

Part L of the building regulations sets out standards to help in the conservation of fuel and power and as such directs the type of appliance installed, heating system controls, zone controls and boiler interlocks in addition to the construction of properties.

2. CONDENSING CONVENTIONAL BOILER SYSTEM

With this type of system hot water cannot be provided on demand but must be stored, usually in a copper cylinder (usually located in an airing cupboard) and a cold water tank above it (usually in the attic) as well as a smaller central heating header tank (also usually in the attic).

As the water is pre-heated and stored, it can be used by more than one tap at a time without significant loss of flow. The Conventional system is particularly suited to the larger property with more than one bathroom or where mains water pressure is too low for an instantaneous appliance such as a combination boiler.

Most types of boiler are also available as high efficiency or "condensing" boilers. There are high efficiency combination boilers, system boilers, or conventional boilers. The term `condensing' or high efficiency applies to the technology which is used to maximise boiler efficiency to use less fuel for more heat.

3. CONDENSING SYSTEM BOILER

Most types of boiler are also available as high efficiency or "condensing" boilers. There are high efficiency combination boilers, system boilers, or conventional boilers. The term `condensing' or high efficiency applies to the technology which is used to maximise boiler efficiency to use less fuel for more heat.

A condensing boiler is a high efficiency modern boiler that incorporates either a larger heat exchanger or even a second heat exchanger. It produces lower flue gas temperatures, lower flue gas emissions, and reduced fuel consumption . It typically converts more than 88% of the fuel used into useful heat, compared to, typically, 78% for modern conventional types.

By recovering and using heat that would otherwise be lost up the flue the best high efficiency boilers can operate with seasonal efficiencies in excess of 90%. Recovering the heat from the flue reduces the temperature of the flue gases to a point where water vapour produced during combustion is 'condensed out'. Thus the name high efficiency condensing boiler. A side effect is that this 'condensed out' water, known as condensate, which is usually acidic, has to be piped away to a drain or soakaway.

All condensing boilers will produce 'pluming' from the flue terminal which appears as steam. This pluming can drift into neighbouring property causing annoyance and possible condensation on window glass or frames so careful consideration should be given to siting of the flue terminal especially if it may effect neighbouring property.

There is no cold water storage tank or central heating header tank. Water is heated in a special cylinder at mains pressure. Because water is pre-heated, it can be delivered to more than one tap at a time as with a conventional cylinder. However, as the system is at mains pressure, flow rates will normally be much improved (depending on local mains water pressure).

PRESSURISED CENTRAL HEATING AND UNVENTED STORED HOT WATER

This system is particularly advantageous where there is a high demand for hot water such as properties with more than one bathroom or where improved shower performance is required without the use of a pump. Also advantageous where no head is available for cold water storage tanks i.e. loft conversions or flats.

Some older systems can be upgraded using the existing boiler subject to building regulations. However, it is generally advantageous to use a purpose-designed pressurised system boiler which includes, within its case, all the components required for primary pressurisation.

Systems are available giving pressurised stored hot water and conventional central heating (no cold water storage tank but retaining central heating header tank) or pressurised central heating and conventional stored hot water (retains cold water storage tank but no central heating header tank) or combinations thereof. Please telephone for further information/advice.

Fitting a room thermostat, thermostatic radiator valves or a time switch or any combination of these will give improved control over comfort conditions and better economy by switching the boiler off whenever it is not required.

Worcester is dedicated to delivering heating comfort for homeowners. there aim is to provide you with as much information as possible about our range of SEDBUK A-rated high efficiency Greenstar condensing boilers and renewable energy products - including Greenskies solar water heating and Greenstore ground source heat pumps - in order to help you make an informed choice about your individual central heating and hot water requirements

How to check the mains water pressure?

All cold-mains fed appliances it is important to ensure at the time of installation that your water main is large enough to deliver adequate water to the appliance whilst other cold outlets are in use, for example flushing toilets, washing machine filling or cold taps being run.

Should the water main be insufficient you may find that cold water is ‘pinched’ from the boiler when more than one outlet is used. You could reduce the chance of this happening by giving the boiler priority over all the other outlets, by piping it up as the first draw off from your mains.

The performance of any mains fed hot water system will depend on the mains water supply offering an adequate dynamic pressure and flow rate, as the flow rate must be sufficient to supply hot and cold water simultaneously.

Whilst there maybe sufficient mains pressure the flow rate is dependant on the size, type and condition of the incoming main. It is important not to confuse pressure with flow and the dynamic pressure will be less than the static pressure.

Please see the technical specification for individual appliance mains water requirements.

A water pressure reducing valve may also be required to protect the appliance from excessive incoming mains pressure. Maximum incoming water pressure ids normally 10 bar.

Common winter boiler enquiries

Greenstar gas-fired boiler series and ‘26 CDi’ boilers

During the recent period of cold weather, we have experienced an increased number of enquiries from customers whose boiler condensate discharge pipe has frozen and prevented the boiler from operating.

The following information will assist you in identifying whether you have such an issue with your boiler and what should be done about it:

Flashing EA Code / Blue Slow Flashing Light

If you are currently without heating and hot water and your boiler is displaying an EA Code on its digital display, or it has a slow flashing blue light, then it is likely that that the boiler is not actually faulty, but simply that it has a frozen condensate trap/ discharge pipe.

What is a Condensate Trap / Discharge Pipe?

The Greenstar range of gas and oil boilers dispose of their condensate by means of a siphonic trap, which discharges a given quantity of condensate fluid at a time to the properties drainage system / pipe work.

The siphonic trap is important because if the condense fluid were allowed to drip continuously to the drain at the rate it was being produced, then there would be an increased risk of any externally run condense discharge pipe freezing.

What is Condensate?

Condensate is moisture gathered from the flue and allowed to run back through the boiler to a collection point.

Why might the condense trap/discharge pipe freeze?

Despite the siphonic trap flushing method, when the outside temperature is below freezing for a prolonged period of time, externally run discharge pipes, or discharge pipes run through a cold area of your property, (E.g. garage or loft) can freeze, particularly if they are not insulated, (lagged) or sized appropriately.

What will happen if my condense trap/discharge pipe has frozen?

The result of this would be the inability of the condensate to drain away, which would lead to the “backing up” of the condense, which in turn will cause the boiler to fail and go to lockout.

If this happens for a gas boiler, then the boiler will likely be showing an EA fault code, or alternatively it will show a flashing blue light and the boiler may be emitting a gurgling sound.

Do you recommend treatment of the central heating water?

We do recommend the use of suitable water treatment in the form of an inhibitor to the heating water system in accordance with the water treatment manufacturers instructions.

The concentration level of the water inhibitor should be checked every 12 months or sooner if system content is lost.

Renewable energy for your home
Welcome to the Solar Century – The time has come for each and every household to become responsible for their energy usage and production. If every home in the UK had solar panels or a small wind turbine, then we could exceed the nation’s current electricity demand. For the price of a “cheap” Japanese motorbike, you can start cutting your energy bills by 70%, which will be a welcome relief as energy pricing goes up and up in the coming years. Install solar panels to generate your energy. If most people did this it would cut millions of tonnes of C02 emissions

Boilers, just like fridges, washing machines, etc, are rated on their energy usage.

Condensing boilers are high-efficiency boilers that produce less carbon dioxide. They reduce the amount of heat that escapes via the flue, compared with normal boilers. Condensing boilers also convert 86% or more of the fuel they use into heat and many carry the ‘Energy Efficiency Recommended’ logo.

There is a very wide range of condensing gas boilers available and many consumers have already chosen to have a condensing boiler because of the benefits that they bring.

5

Any boiler installation must comply with current IEE regulations and can be installed within zones in the bathroom dependant on the individual boiler IPX rating.
